So yesterday my lovely friend Candice and I took part in a veterain scholarship swing dance fundraiser, to help support the veterians of CSULA. Anyone who knows me knows I love to swing dance, so It was a must for me to go. The event took place at the American Legion Post 43 in Hollywood which add to the feel of an old 1930’s 1940’s USO deployment ball.
Knowing this I took it upon myself to make Candice this lovely indigo swing dress, obviously inspired by Aurora’s birthday gown from the final half of Sleeping Beauty. It was simple yet cute, and flowed wonderfully when I’d spin her. I dawned a pair of dress blues, also known as cracker jacks which is salior talk for a blue Navy uniform. I ran around pretending I was based on the U.S. Washington, leaving to war first thing in the morning. Which only lead to old 50 year old war vets interrogate my knowledge on the U.S. Navy, luckily I did my home work before I put this uniform on.
We danced the night away to the live band and drank nothing but scotch and whiskey….it was the american thing to do. The event raised enough for three veterans scholarships. All in all it was a wonderful night.
