So recently I was lucky enough to attend the directors cut seminar with the Mulleavy sisters of Rodarte to talk about their Fra Angelico collection made for LACMA. (Los Angeles County Museum of Art for those who don’t know) The collection drew inspiration from Fra Angelico fresco paintings that the Mulleavy sisters seen on a recent trip to Italy.
When ask about the collection Laura Mulleavy stated “We started with color, the frescoes have a chalky nature, they’re full of beautiful vibrant colors, but they’re chalky. We wanted to find fabrics that had that quality, that weren’t so completely shiny that they seemed too vibrant. We started thinking of each dress as something that could exist as part of a fresco.”
Aside from the color the 10 dresses made were rich in silks fabrics, feathers, gold metal star burst pieces and Swarovski elements. Hung from the ceiling to give an angelic feel.
Of the entire collect my favorite pieces were the gold dress (obvious center dress) which had a beautiful gold and crystal tiara above it, and the white dress (left side) which was accented with a breath taking feather bow.
These dresses were truly wonderful and I hope in the near future to see them again.
